On Thursday November 8th, two of Clover Ridge’s finest were honored as Linn County Farm Bureau Educators of the year at the bureau’s monthly meeting. Sandy McMinds and Maggie Phillips were both selected as award recipients, based on their involvement in education and agriculture, marrying the two to provide learning opportunities for all Clover Ridge students.
Mrs. McMinds and Mrs. Phillips work as a team to help children understand that agriculture is critical and integral to everyday life. In the past six years, they have organized our Clover Ridge Science Days with a deliberate focus on local agriculture, inviting a variety of guests to help teach the students about everything from sheep shearing, logging, bee keeping and making butter.
In addition to Outdoor School, Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. McMinds maintain and promote the Outdoor Learning Lab. This is an area at our school where children can learn about native plants and habitats. They organize clean up days, and review proposals from local organizations to add content to the area.
We are so grateful that these two fabulous teachers are part of our Clover Ridge family, and have been recognized for all the good work they do in educating children.
